Imagine that there is a new king about to be born. This isn’t just ANY king, though. This is the most important king that has ever been born. His arrival is going to change the world in ways that no one has ever even imagined.

So if you were in charge of inviting guests to witness the birth of this amazing king, who would you invite? The president? Kings of other countries? Famous movie stars? The richest people so that they could give the king expensive gifts? Who?

Well, God invited the most average and ordinary people to witness the birth of Jesus. Shepherds were not important in the society that Jesus was born into. God invited them in order to demonstrate that Jesus didn’t come only for the rich and powerful. Jesus came for EVERYONE - including the poor and the “unimportant.”
