419
One of the original seven deacons, Stephen was a bold proclaimer of the gospel. He is arrested and brought before the Sanhedrin where he confronts the hypocritical rulers and tells them Jesus is the Son of God. The outraged rulers accuse him of blasphemy and order his execution by stoning. Stephen becomes the first martyr of the church.
