Living Life With Eternity in Mind

In this series, kids will set off on an adventure, taking on the role of space explorers. Along the way, they will learn about the most important mission in the galaxy: following Jesus. The mission is full of adventure and challenges, but it comes with the ultimate reward: those who follow Jesus will spend all eternity with Him in heaven.

Memory Verse: “God did not send his Son into the world to judge the world. He sent his Son to save the world through him.” John 3:17 (NIrV)

Lessons:
"Fight the good fight along with all other believers. Take hold of eternal life. You were chosen for it when you openly told others what you believe." 1 Timothy 6:12a (NIRV)

LESSONS:

LaunchPad
Scripture: Luke 23:32-47, The Death of Jesus
Every space explorer mission has a beginning: the launch pad. Jesus came to earth with a mission to die for our sins. If we want to spend eternity with Jesus, it all starts today with following Jesus.
Objective: Kids will learn that those who follow Jesus spend eternity with Him.

Ready for Take-Off
Scripture: Acts 1:3-11, Jesus Ascends Into Heaven
With rockets firing, the explorer’s ship takes off into space. Before taking off into the sky, Jesus sent his disciples on a mission – to share the good news with everyone. Those of us who know we will spend eternity with Jesus are on a mission to bring along as many people as possible.
Objective: Kids will learn that a follower of Jesus is on a mission to share the good news.

Infinite Possibilities
Scripture: Philippians 3:10-14, Paul Presses On
There is no limit to the kinds of challenges a space explorer can encounter on their journey. Everyone faces difficult times; those who follow Jesus are no exception. But as Paul knew, when we face troubles, we must never give up, knowing the reward that awaits us in heaven.
Objective: Kids will learn followers of Jesus never give up in the face of trouble.

Light Years Ahead
Scripture: Matthew 6:19-24, Treasures in Heaven
Space explorers travel by light-years – way faster than any car or plane could ever travel. While the rest of the world lives for money and things, those who follow Jesus are light years ahead: building up treasures in Heaven.
Objective: Kids will learn that followers of Jesus do not live for earthly treasure.

Suit Up
Scripture: Ephesians 6:10-18, The Armor of God
Explorers have their spacesuit, which prepares them for travel and to face all the dangers of deep space. Those who follow Jesus are in a battle, too, against spiritual forces that want to take them down. We must "suit up" with the armor of God if we hope to stand strong until the end.
Objective: Kids will learn that Gods' armor keeps us strong and helps us fight whatever battles we face.

Laser-Focused
Scripture: Luke 12:22-31, Seek First
An explorer has a precise laser built into his spacesuit. This laser has dozens of functions to help out no matter what obstacles the explorer faces.  Those who follow Jesus do not worry about the small stuff in life; they have a laser focus on eternity and the kingdom of God.  They know that trouble in this life is temporary, but the joy of heaven lasts forever.
Objective: Kids will learn that our focus should always be on God's kingdom.

Supernova
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 9:19-25, A Lasting Crown
Space explorers know that when a star explodes, it creates a bright and beautiful light show, called a supernova. Paul gave his all to follow Jesus because he knew a bright and beautiful crown awaited him in eternity when he would get to live with Jesus forever.
Objective: Kids will learn that we should give our all for Jesus, knowing a reward awaits us in eternity.

Take Me To Your Leader
Scripture: Mark 10:35-45, James and John's Request
When an explorer arrives on a new planet, his first task is to meet the leaders. James and John had followed Jesus on earth, and they wanted to be the most important people with Him in heaven. But Jesus showed them that if you’re going to be a leader, you have to be a servant.
Objective: Kids will learn that Jesus wants his followers to serve other people.

Protector Of The Planets
Scripture: Matthew 25:31-46, The Sheep and the Goats
The space explorer is also tasked with defending those they encounter who may be in trouble. Jesus has called his followers to serve other people. When we do that, we will find out in the end, that we were really serving Jesus.
Objective: Kids will learn that when we do good to others, we are really serving Jesus.

Black Hole
Scripture: 1 Corinthians 13:1-13, Love
All space explorers know to avoid black holes. Nothing can be seen in a black hole, and nothing can escape from it. Paul writes that we cannot see heaven clearly while we are here on earth, but we know that Jesus wants us to love at all times. We cannot escape from Jesus' love; we should strive to love like Jesus.
Objective: Kids will learn that the most important thing we can do is love God and love others.

I Come in Peace
Scripture: John 14:1-7, Jesus Comforts His Disciples
Space explorers are always on a mission of peace. Jesus was on a mission of peace here on earth; his new mission in heaven is to prepare a place for us to live with Him forever.
Objective: Kids will learn that Jesus is preparing a home for his followers to live with Him for all eternity.

Beyond Time and Space
Scripture: Revelation 21:1-7, New Heaven and New Earth
In their work, space explorers test the very limits of space and time. There is a day coming when God will make all things new beyond what we can even imagine. There will be no more pain, illness, sadness, or death in the new heaven and new earth. This is what awaits those who live for Jesus now.
Objective: Kids will learn that a glorious new life is ahead for those who put their faith in Jesus now.
