As Christians, we're supposed to be in the world but not of the world. That means we shouldn’t hide our light nor put it out completely! Our light is Jesus Christ. There are many people in the world who will hate you unless you celebrate their sins. This leads many Christians to behave as though they must make accept evil as good in order to be kind. We are called to make friends in the world, but not to make friends WITH the world. Sin is still sin. Jesus spent time with the sorts of people that the religious elite of His day would have never dreamed of befriending. But Jesus never compromised the truth of what God says is right and wrong. Light hurts the eyes of those in darkness, and there is a way to be kind and gentle with your light, but the right answer is never to turn off your light and dwell in darkness with those who are lost. Be in the world but not of the world.
